Can You Stick to It?

Laptop with lots of stickers on it.

This is something that I realise so many of us do. We start something and for some reason, we stop doing it and our willpower goes straight out the window.

I have been working with my clients over the years to practice self-control and willpower. There are certainly ways of doing this and hopefully, after reading this you will have a few more tools in your life toolbox to help you.

Having a strong willpower takes practice. Like anything that you become good at will certainly come with doing it more often and getting good at it. For so many of us, it is stopping ourselves from eating those unwanted calories, smoking that cigarette or even have just that one more drink that pushes you over the edge.

You need to remember how good you felt when you could stop yourself from doing things you didn’t want to, that’s the first thing. Often stopping yourself from certain things needs to be replaced by things that you can feel good about. There are substitutes for a lot of our vices we just need to condition ourselves or convince ourselves that they are better for us, which makes it a lot easier.

I always thought we were born with willpower, but over the years I have come to learn otherwise. For me, it is easier to find someone with a relentless willpower and learn from them. These are the types of people whose lives are working better than some others. People with a strong sense of self-have the ability to stick to things even when it is tough. They have routine and stability in their world and it is so easy to see and admire them for it.

So go out and talk to them and find what their recipe is and how they get it right. People who I have used as my mentors are those people who had strong values and principles in their lives. These people know what they want and they go out and get it. There is nothing that stops them from taking the next step. They believe in themselves and in the good that they want and set out on a journey to accomplish it.

There is that sense of self-belief that stands out and willpower to let nothing stand in their way. They always have a plan. There is nothing more attractive than seeing someone go after what they want with no self-doubt and very little holding them back. Willpower is a wonderful quality to work on and improve on. You can never have too much of it. It not only stops you from doing the wrong things in your life but can propel you into doing more of the right things.

Grab your life with both hands and work on your willpower for a better you and a better life.

Make sure you have a strong will and enormous power too.
