I Got My Smile Back.

Lady smiling.

Well, if there is one thing that’s for sure: we are all getting older every day. It’s a strange thing, but wow, when it hits YOU it hits you hard. When last did you catch a glimpse of yourself climbing out the shower or bath?

That for most of us is a scary question to have to answer. Firstly that is definitely not my body that I saw last night, it was another person who looks like they are a little curvier than they used to be. New veins, some extra wrinkles, a few extra lumps and bumps, surely that can’t be me?

I felt like someone with a very sick sense of humour gave me a body to look at that was supposed to scare me into some sort of new mindset. Well, you could say it did. This has been going on for quite some time now. I am heading for that great round number 50.

So much changes the older we get and its hard to accept the body we seem to have grown into. For me though, I had a shock that I wasn’t expecting and that was that not just my skin started changing but my teeth started to do their own thing too. I suddenly began to acquire a Madonna gap. Now when you were young and cute, that gap in her front teeth looked a lot more attractive and sexier. Now a gap in my front teeth makes me look like I am not just losing my smile, but along with it my confidence and self-esteem.

What I can say is that it has been worth every bit of effort to get my smile back. It wasn’t for free at all, but it has been worth saving up to pay for it to be done. The one thing I don’t want to lose is my smile. When you find you stop smiling and enjoying the little things in life, do something about it. Sometimes the cost of it will put you off, but saving up to get it done is a discipline and takes determination all on its own.

For what it is worth to you and how you feel about life, do what you have to do to be happy, feel good and embrace life. We get one chance to embrace life and we really need to understand that if you do it right, right for you that is, that one chance is enough.

You will have fewer regrets and not be too resentful about the things that got away. So the next time you see yourself naked it is you and only you can choose to do something about it. Love yourself no matter what, but get serious about feeling better about what you are seeing and how you are feeling.

Life rewards effort, no matter how you look at it.

So go get your smile back - it feels great to know that I did something about mine. Gratitude is my attitude because I hadn’t smiled for a while.
