Officiating a Wedding - What a Life Experience!

Bride walking down the aisle

I never for one minute thought I would sit down one day to share a story of how it felt to marry a couple.

My clients approached me over 9 months ago to ask whether I would marry them, and without any hesitation, I said yes.  I only realised what I had agreed to when I had time to let it all sink in.  Suddenly I was in a wedding and speech mode.  My journey over the past months felt exciting, overwhelming and quite unreal at times.

Well, it’s a day after the wedding now, so looking back I thought this was such an incredible experience, I would love to share with my readers.  Oh gosh, all I can say is: thank you to all my friends, family and clients for all the support and encouragement throughout this time.

From practising my ceremony on you to showing you just how long my hair was growing to freaking out wondering if I was doing the right thing.  I knew in my heart of hearts I wanted to be doing this, but I also realised, that suddenly I was responsible for one of the most important days of the couple's lives, freaking out wondering if I was doing the right thing.  I knew in my heart of hearts I wanted to be doing this, but I also realised, that suddenly I was responsible for one of the most important days of the couple's lives.

I can’t say that I was ready for what really lay before me until the moment was upon me.  One thing is sure, I am not for one minute sorry that I got to experience something that I never thought or imagined I would be doing.  This is one of the highlights of my life for reasons I didn’t even know existed.

Even typing this is making me realise that the opportunity that was given to me was something absolutely unbelievable.

The trust and the belief that these two wonderful people had in my ability to pull off a wedding ceremony was in itself priceless.  Magical moments that now the bride and groom have on video for the rest of their lives.  Nothing conventional of course could have happened with a unique couple like this.  It was all out of the box right down to the finer details.

From a few really important words of love and wisdom down to tokens of love, life and everything in between.  Magical moments with my special couple staring into each other's eyes.  It was really very humbling to know I was more than up close and personal and I could feel the love between them.  Not to mention a little apprehension of the unknown, which is totally normal.

I did so much research and question-asking, but when it came to crunch time I had to do what I do best and that is: speak from the heart.  Some things came out the way they were supposed to and others came out very unexpectedly - I never knew I had those things in me.  That moment of being so aware of the message to all involved, that is the moment I continuously keep playing over and over in my mind.  I wish I could have paused time there and then, and I am sure that is one of the highlights of their day together too.

Even typing this is making me realise that the opportunity that was given to me was something absolutely unbelievable.

As time has passed and I have realised that this is something I really enjoy doing, I have been asked to do two more ceremonies this year.  I can vaguely imagine what it is going to be like.  Every couple is unique and it is so very important to be exactly what I am meant to be and say exactly that in the moment. I am there to inspire, impact and hopefully influence them in a way that they remember just why they are standing together, dedicating their lives to one another in front of the most important people in their lives.

The memory of my first wedding will live with me forever and the ones to follow will be the important pages in my biography.

Forever grateful to you all.
