Defining moments

The word defining literally means :

an event which typifies or determines all subsequently related occurrences.

It makes me feel that there is nothing I can’t do.

We all have moments in our lives that make us realise what more we are capable of.  We can often see the finished result of that particular defining moment once we have come out of it.

I have had times in my life when I am doing something and not really sure of the consequences that follow.  When I look back and see that I have impacted, influenced or inspired someone or something to happen – that becomes a real defining moment.

It is almost like a drug to me and I want more of the things I feel when I realise these defining moments. I keep searching for more of that response as well as the feeling that I get from it.  It has in actual fact become my motivator, a pill I keep taking to make my actions ‘defining moments’.

My love for this feeling has become so much a part of my life, that it has become an integral part of me and how I operate.

When I started writing this blog, I realised that most of these defining moments started with random acts of kindness.  These are either when I did something for someone or when they did something for me.  It is also when I see someone doing something for someone else.  These are all definitely attached to emotions.  The more of the emotion I feel, the more defining the moment is.

I was sitting waiting for a flight and I witnessed a real defining moment:  There was a mother working on her laptop and across the way on a chair was her son.  He was about 9 or 10 years old.  He had been playing on his phone when he got up, walked across to his mother who was definitely entrenched in her work and kissed her on the cheek.  Wow, that took my breath away.  I felt like time stood still and I was the only other person on the planet that had just witnessed this.

A defining moment for sure.  Why exactly I am not sure, but it is what really inspired me to write this blog.

If you feel like you need to have a defining moment, then look around you.  It is happening everywhere around you.  You just need to take notice.  You can even create these moments by living in the moment and enjoying all the beautiful things in your life, even if they are small.

When something touches you in a way that makes you realise we can enjoy more of what life has to offer by actually taking notice.

When you stop caring things go wrong.  It is up to you to make them go right.
