Shake It UP

Do you feel as if your life has become mundane? How do we make a change in our lives when our life seems to have become unoriginal? Do you get a not-so-fresh feeling when you look at your life? Do you fear what the author Robin Sharma so perfectly wrote when he said, “don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life?”

I emphatically believe that we didn’t come to this earth to play it safe and to settle for a life of boredom or live solely as a conditioned reflex. Too many of us have become robotic zombies that live day after day on a repetitive loop. I believe that too many of us have forgotten what joy feels like and have lost any connection with our true source or essential nature.

I am sure that most of you at this stage are saying to yourself, “but.... I have duties and responsibilities! I have to wake up early, I have to shower, make breakfast, make my bed, sit in traffic, drop the kids off/go to school/work etc.” I get all that, but I do not believe this to be the problem in itself. We all have to do what we have to do....BUT here is the important part....we can do all that we need to do and still live the life of our dreams. A life of passion and adventure and of wonder. Your “not-so-fresh” life can become one so fresh and joyful, you will find yourself living every day with as much enthusiasm as possible.

I would like to share with you some suggestions from my own experience that helped me shake up my own life.

The first of these is...

TODAY IS LIFE!!

There is no other life that you can be sure of other than the one that you are given today. This mind-blowing perspective forced me to shake myself awake. It shifted my mindset completely and allowed me to deliberately practice being my best self every day. Be awake to being your best self. Everything is unknown and temporary other than the present moment... our concern must be to live while we are alive. Don’t gulp down your life, smell, taste, listen to and be aware of each experience.

Are you aware of your own existence, are you aware of the infinite possibilities available to you at this present moment?

Shake Up The Way You View The World

Most of us have become incredibly bullheaded in our views, beliefs, and opinions that we stick to them as stubbornly as humanly possible. We have always thought, believed, reacted in a certain way and so this pattern has repeated itself time and time again in our lives. We have filters that unconsciously measure everything in terms of what we have experienced and what we blindly believe to be already true. We knee-jerk and react to situations because we have never paused to consider things from all possible angles.

To shake up your life is to open yourself up to changing your mindset and having a deep understanding that the way in which you view the world is completely your choice.

Wake Up Your Dreams

If you are like me, your dreams have probably been put to bed years ago. We forget about them because, you know, life isn’t that simple. Well, I believe that it is that simple, everyone has dreams and I invite you to remember your dreams WITHOUT listing all the limitations that make your dreams impossible. We so often put our dreams on the back burner because we use excuses such as my life is just too busy, reality took over, I don’t have the time, money, ability. To shake up your life, wake up those dreams that feed your soul and be vulnerable enough to do one little thing each day to make your dreams happen.

Shake Up Your Normal

Change your route to work

Change the people that you talk to at work, sit next to someone new every day

Visit a new place (doesn’t have to be overseas or expensive)... just go somewhere new

Try reading a book before going to bed instead of watching TV

Learn something new/start a new hobby

Go for a walk on the weekend

When was the last time you did something for fun?... trust me, you do have time for fun

If you are super health conscious, eat that piece of cake.... if you normally eat 2 pieces of cake, try just one

Change up what you do in your free time

Choose to not hang around people whose energy is negative

Listen to your body

Take time to quieter your thoughts

Start taking baby steps to leave your habitual loop that has been your “comfort zone” for too long. The smallest change opens up your mind to the wonders of life!!

Shake You Inner Child Until “They” Wake Up

Take your mind back to when you were a small child. Remember the joy, adventure, and spontaneity that every day held. Do you realize that you were never more “yourself” than you were as a young child? As a young child, we are perfectly connected to our essential nature and to our true source. What happens as we grow up is, we learn to put on masks. We gradually lose our essential nature, because we have been programmed to express ourselves through a socially acceptable self. As children, we were unconstrained expressions of our consciousness, but now we find ourselves so heavily constrained by society. I have not had to take off one mask, I have taken off many.  The more time I spend connecting to my childhood self, the more masks I peel off. Shake your young self-awake and spend time connecting to what brought you joy back then.... recapture that lost child and bring him/her into your life today!!

I am committed today to shake up my life for the better! My new chosen perspective and mindset has led me on the most epic journey. My days are full of wonder, adventure, and enthusiasm. I connect with my essential self as often as I can, because I refuse to fit into a mould or live by someone else’s expectations. This freedom has unleashed me on life and I shake and bake my way through each day!

I leave you with this quote from Mahatma Gandhi, “In a gentle way, you can shake the world”.
